BLOG: Quick Questions with Dantanio (Michael Jackson HIStory Tour)
posted 08 May 2018

After touring across the world in  Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai, South Africa, Canada, the USA and many more countries, the Michael Jackson HIStory show is making its UK debut this year, and we are absolutely delighted to welcome them here on Saturday 26th May.

In contrast to other tribute acts amongst the MJ community, the Michael Jackson HIStory Show stays true to a real life Michael Jackson concert with only one solo artist taking the stage; mirroring Michael Jackson's performances for an accurate experience. This week, I had the chance to catch up with Dantanio, the star of the show and learnt more about how much work really goes into being one of the best Michael Jackson tribute acts around.

How long have you been touring with the Michael Jackson HIStory show?

The MJ HIStory show has been touring for 7 years now… I’ve been touring with the show since 2015. It’s been 3 years now.

Michael Jackson truly was an icon, from his musical style, to his fashion choices and obviously his dance moves. How long did it take you to perfect the act?

I started emulating Michael Jackson from a very young age… since the age of 9. It takes great dedication and discipline to master such an icon… I can’t say precisely how long it takes, as I believe we never stop learning and I am still learning… But I have been performing as MJ for over 20 years now.

Does it take long for you to prepare yourself before each show?

The preparation process before a show is intense… it takes me around 2 hours to transform with make up and the outfit into MJ. It’s really a complete change in everything. My speech my mannerisms and physical posture, it all completes the package… plus vocal and pre-show warm ups.

Do you have a favorite Michael Jackson song to perform? And when you’re not being Michael, what other sort of music do you like?

I love all the songs, I really do... there’s perfection in all of them. But if I have to choose, I would go with “Heal the world” because of the universal message it carries. In that we all should live as one… planet earth belongs to us all… equally. Away from MJ I listen to all styles of music and being a songwriter it’s important to be diverse and applicable.

Obviously Michael Jackson is a big inspiration for you, but who else has inspired you to perform music? How did your musical journey begin?

My music influence I would say started with my mom… she loved singing. That’s where I got my voice. But growing up I had many influences. From Ray Charles to Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Tracy Chapman, Phil Collins and so many other… local and international… I started singing around age 9. While I was dishing and singing one day my big brother discovered my voice and started rehearsing me Saturdays. Further on in high school I joined a vocal group and we performed and recorded together for a few years.

You’ve travelled all over the world with the Michael Jackson HIStory show, so what’s next for you, Dantanio?

Oh wow… it has been the experience of a lifetime, I’m so honored and happy to have such a spectacular team of cast and crew with me… we are like one big family… (Thanks Showtime).

I may still tour for the next 2 or 3 years and hopefully retire… and spend some quality time with my family… Also I may only do exclusive concerts for corporate clientele… But no more extended touring…

It’s been an awesome journey thus far….

I really enjoyed hearing about the life of a Michael Jackson tribute artist, and find out more about Dantanio himself. Described as the "electrifying frontman" of the Michael Jackson HIStory show, his performance is sure to get everyone up and dancing in the aisles! If you're as excited as we are about his performance, make sure to grab yourself a ticket here!
