Catography

Catography

From Maui to Midlands, a tale of rescue cats and an obsessed artist.

Have you ever heard about the magical Hawaiian island full of cats?

Just off the coast of Maui, in Hawaii, there sits a small island called Lanai. It’s there you'll find The Lanai Cat Sanctuary and it's 600, yes, six hundred happy feline inhabitants. On November 28th, 2018, Kat and her partner Tom stepped into the sanctuaries beautiful enclosure and spent the entire day playing, feeding, and photographing as many cats as humanly possible.

Whilst laying in the grass, literally covered in cats, the epiphany hit her and within moments the CATOGRAPHY idea unraveled in it’s entirety. Minus the sunshine and crystal clear sea, this could be replicated back home in England. Go to cat sanctuaries, photograph the cats, create artwork, exhibit the work, create a cat lovers market, find other cat artists for the gallery, tour CATOGRAPHY….there was work to be done!

Then Covid came. Without being able to physically go to the UK cat sanctuaries as planned, Kat used that time to create unique twists on her cat photography, moving from PC to canvas. The exhibition will travel through the process from classic photography, to digital artwork, and onto multimedia combinations with acrylic and ink.
