Solihull Arts Complex

The Seed of Imagination exhibition celebrates the creative responses of Year 5 and Year 6 children from three primary schools working with Art at the Heart CIC on Solihull CEP’s visual arts strand of the 'Moments Of Wow' programme. The collection of artworks were produced in response to a mysterious sculpture appearing one day on the school grounds leading to a learning journey of exploration and discovery to find out “What is it?” leading to further questions of “What is art?”, “What does art do?” and “What does the sculpture mean for us?” Linked to the theme of sustainability, the artworks explore the role of imagination in creating solutions to global problems.

The  exhibition is the culmination of a 10 week culture and education partnership project with Art at the Heart CIC and three primary schools: Coppice Junior School, Peterbrook Primary School and St Margaret’s C of E Primary School. The project has been funded by West Midlands Combined Authority through the Commonwealth Games Legacy Fund and is one of three ‘Moments of Wow’ projects run across visual arts, theatre and dance.

These large artworks tell the story of a creative learning journey in response to a giant seed pod (or is it?) that lands on the school grounds one day without explanation. The exhibition brings together a whole range of responses that tackle some big questions: “What is art? What does art do? What does the sculpture mean for us? How is the sculpture linked to climate change?

Moments of Wow Programme

Solihull CEP has been working with three organisations to deliver three arts projects to Solihull schools across dance, theatre and visual arts, as part of their Moments of Wow programme. The organisations are:
