Small is Beautiful 2024

A two night showcase of innovative and experimental new work from Solihull artists and creatives.

Culture Solihull have selected a range of micro-commissions from a diverse range of artforms, to be presented as part of Small is Beautiful, a two night event (Thursday 1 and Friday 2 February) which will celebrate and showcase work created by artists living and working in the Solihull Borough. Entry is FREE but tickets must be booked in advance.

Small is Beautiful gives both established and new artists the chance to try out new ideas, concepts and ways of working. This event is part of a programme of work by Culture Solihull to support and develop the creative sector.

Small is Beautiful will feature exciting live performances on both nights

Thursday 1 February

  • Amber Golllay - solo theatre piece about living with ADHD.
  • Ascension Dance & Credo Kampeta - dance performance.
  • Elizabeth J. Birch - experimental music performance.
  • Emily Holtom - live poetry reading.
  • Keneish Dance - dance performance.
  • Liz John & Hannah Smith - fusion of expressive abstract art and monologue.
  • Nicola Prestage & Jaden Mullings - new urban music video.
  • Sohan Kailey - bhangra dance tuiorial.

 

Friday 2 February

  • Amy Leigh Sandford - solo theatre piece about working class actors.
  • Aspire Dance - dance performance.
  • Chris Passey - scratch performance of songs from a new musical.
  • ITZATNA Arts - new children's theatre piece based on The Coyote and the Owl.
  • Jeremy Clay, Joe Cook & Rose Johnson - music & poetry performance.
  • Rachel Sambrooks - live literature performance.
  • Zoë Deleata and Parveen Bhairon - aerial performance.

 

PLUS on both nights, there will be a fantastic selection of visual art on display in The Core's Courtyard Gallery from the following artists:

  • Bally Sembi - DIY Dollhouse
  • Charis McRoberts - children's poetry exhibition.
  • Fiona Carr - fabric and oil painting
  • Kamaljit Suman & Mukesh Kumar - collaborative visual media experiments
  • Karoline Rerrie - screen printing.
  • Kat and Camera - macro photography.
  • Katie Holtom - cyanotypes.
  • Matt Prentice - 3D printing.
  • Melissa Keskinkilinc (Melissa's Melting Pot) - glasswork.
  • Shaana Derry & Joanne Tremacro - mixed media collaboration.
  • Tracey Thorne - cyanotypes.
  • Victoria Wyton-Mills - painting and drawing.

 

The visual art micro-commissions selected for Small is Beautiful will also feature in the Small is Beautiful Exhibition in the Courtyard Gallery from 23 January to 12 February.
